After spending years working as a children's book designer, Sarah started hand painting ceramics, then progressed to making her own pottery ten years ago, revelling in the joy of playing with clay and learning to embrace unexpected outcomes. The satisfaction derived from a piece that you're happy with when it emerges from the kiln after the final firing is what keeps her going.
Sarah enjoys experimenting with different techniques and the challenge of working with various clays, porcelain being the most unforgiving but showcasing colour brilliantly. By its nature porcelain demands speedy handling and exploring its possibilities has led to developing the form of bud vases. Each unique bud vase is like a sketch, intended to convey the spontaneity experienced in the making. Leaves, flowers and birds are recurring themes in her work.
