Stag & Bow

Stag and Bow host a continuously evolving wide programme of workshops from beginners’ standards - knitting, crochet and understanding your sewing machine - to more advanced classes in spoon carving, felting, lino printing and more. We also run classes themed round new book and product launches. Many of our tutors are local makers.

September 27th, Oct 4th, 11th & 18th - Patchwork and Quilting, Fridays 6.30-9pm

Over 4 sessions make a simple 9-patch cot or lap quilt, finished size around 110cm square.

Learn how to cut fabric accurately and quickly using a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler and cutting mat; arrange your pieces in a pleasing design and stitch them together by machine with ¼ inch seams. Layer your pieced quilt top with wadding and a backing fabric to make a quilt sandwich which you will then pin or tack together. Machine or hand quilt. Cut and attach a binding to the edges.

No experience necessary but enthusiasm and application essential. Once you have learned these basic skills, the world of patchwork and quilting will be open to you.

We will provide: rotary cutter, acrylic rulers and cutting mats; sewing machines with 1/4 inch feet and walking feet; curved safety pins; fabric scissors; cotton sewing threads to suit your fabrics,  basic sewing kit – small scissors, pins, needles etc.
