Handwoven cotton khadi fabric, woven by a small cooperative cluster in India with distinctive pinstripe. "Khadi" refers to traditional handwoven cloth.

Suitable for lightweight projects, including blouses, shirts, easy loungewear and underwear, light blankets, linings and blinds, dresses and accessories. It is a stronger weave than voile but very soft.
It has a wonderful texture to it, caused by the introduction in the warp of thicker black yarn. When the weft threads are woven over it, a sweet "couching" look is created. "Yarn-dyed" refers to the fact that the fabric is woven with coloured yarns rather than being dyed afterwards.
The stripes are vertical, and measure approximately 16mm in width, and are alternatively 14mm and 10mm apart.
The fabric has a smooth finished selvedge due to the nature of being woven on handlooms, so you may not even need to seam some garments if the pattern lay is used wisely.

Ethical production: The fabric is handwoven on small power looms using cotton in Southern India. The fibre itself is spun within small artisan clusters, and the fabric itself is woven within a community known as a "khadi cluster" in Bengal.

Sustainability: Fabric that is produced within the same country prevents unnecessary shipping during production. The dyes used for the fabric are azo-free and totally ironable, and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you make). The wax used for the batik process is recovered and reused. As it is handwoven on small power looms, the process from raw material production to weaving and printing uses little energy and water. This textile also sustains the skilled artisans who produce it.

Please note, due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor flaws that we see as normal and charming.

To care for your product
Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer, though to protect the handprint for longer, we recommend hand washing any item you make with this textile in cool water. Iron med-hot temperature, but it is suggested to do so when damp, or spray a little water on it first.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.
Natural handwoven fabrics have a natural tendency to shrink 3-5%, so do wash this textile first before you create any products that will require washing at a later date.
